before i switched over to the new site someone made an issue about it violating their privacy and i didn't want to complicate and confuse the switchover with policy debate at the same time as technical issues so removed the flags even though i disagreed.. someone has already requested it as a feature and i think it should be added back so i thought it's now time to open the discussion and get everyone's opinions.

No one holds a gun to your head and forces you to post personal stuff on here do they? No one holds your family hostage and wont release them unless you post while travelling do they?
You have freedom of choice to post or not, and how much personal info you reveal about yourself on here and elsewhere on the internet. If you have posted such personal info and it could come back to bite you and are then worried that a country flag will give your identity away, then whose fault is that really?

If new accounts had a probationary period and had to have it (among other things), and after that it was optional (as well as for the existing accounts) then that would sort the spammers and trolls and keep most others happy, but be a pain in the ass for yourself obviously. :D
Me? I dont care if people know I am from the UK, or Wales for that matter, but any more specific than that and I get nervous.

after more than 30 years as a jw and 9 as a born-again christian i finally let go of faith 10 years ago today.... it was on boxing day 2004 that news of the asian tsunami put the final nail in the coffin of my relationship with god.
since that time i have listened attentively to every possible argument in defense of faith; there has never been a single moment that i have felt any discomfort with my decision.. life without god has been liberating.
no longer do i have to defend the indefensible.

i flirted briefly with wishing there was a god and a need for the spiritual once I'd learned the TTATT, but it was an emotional response to the gaping hole in my wasted cult life and nothing more. Instead I consciously chose to to be true to myself and only go where the evidence led. It led to a god free life and the freedom to actually think is fantastic. :D
well, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.
i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.

So whatever your opinion is now, you could come back in a year or so and read this thread and marvel at how little you knew. Well you will if you are at all honest with yourself.
this new series' pilot episode is the perfect allegory for the blind faith of the average person in the jw movement, those who deny that anything 'immoral' or sinister happens within the ranks, the double lives, doubters, and towards the end of the episode, an example of how the governing body controls persons' lives.
